Sustainable and Low-cost Methods of Preventing Malaria.
Plant with natural mosquito repelling agents.
A 2013/2014 report by the parliamentary committee of health Uganda showed that 50% of deaths caused by malaria among children, supposedly due to poverty, lack of medical assistance or knowledge on how to protect ones' self against malaria. Below is a list of plants which attain natural mosquito repelling agents and can be used in your garden or home to fight off those pesky mosquitos.
Citronella
This is one of the most common repelling ingredients against mosquitos. Citronella is a beautiful perennial clumping grass that emits a strong aroma. That aroma masks other scents and keeps mosquitoes from being attracted to
things located around it. The plant grows very tall and takes up a lot of space which is a great addition to your garden.
Lemon Balm
Lemon Balm is a very hardy plant, it resists drought, and it grows well even in shade. It contains high levels of a compound called citronellal, which gives it its lemony aroma and flavor that bugs find so unpleasant. An added bonus? You can dry the leaves and use them to make a delicious herbal tea!
Lavender
Lavender attains a very soothing and calming scent and has a very attractive physical appearance due to its purple flowering stems. Grow it indoors near a sunny window, or outside in your garden or flower bed to keep the bugs away. Lavender repels mosquitoes because mosquitoes dislike the scent lavender gives off. It can be planted in gardens or made into oil and applied to the skin or mixed with other oils to keep mosquitoes away.
I hope this helped and tune in for more easy, low-cost, sustainable methods to prevent against mosquitos. :)
